The Astor estate and farms once spread over nearly 3000 acres of apple orchards, cattle farming and dairy operation, and ornamental gardens.

Located on the original farm manager's portion of the estate and with the main historic Astor barn and manager's 19th century house, Ferncliff Farm today contains an orchard of heirloom apple trees, early flower plantings from the estate gardens and historic blooms sourced from regional heritage seed programs. The farm maintains a contemporary picture of the long Ferncliff farm history, with plants and trees that have existed here for years.

Having lived on the estate for over 12 years and having been stewards of Astor Courts on the estate, returning it to its former glory, all of us are now working restoring a part of Ferncliff Farm. We learned as much as we could about the history, the structures, the progressive engineering and the farm philosophy and bounty.

We could not let that learning go because it is a rich part of all of our Hudson Valley tradition. We want to share some of what we've learned. We've created an authentic garden and orchard designed as both a romantic and historic outdoor space.
